Quality Show Ponies

Yurrugar (pronounced Yu-ra-gar) is an Aboriginal word meaning "extensive view". If you see the property, you will understand why it is called this. The Yurrugar property itself has been in the Saunders family for a number of years (around 100!) and has always carried the name Yurrugar. It was only fitting that the stud too be called this. Yurrugar had been a dairy farm for most of these years, until 2003 when the herd was dispersed. Yurrugar cattle were not only sold to Australian breeders, but also a number of international studs. Yurrugar Holstein Friesians can now be found not only in Australia, but in top dairy sheds throughout South America, Europe and the Middle East.

As a family, we have been involved with horses competitively in many disciplines for well over forty five years, however it was in 1997 when we decided to solely concerntrate on breeding and producing show ponies. We endevour to produce a small amount of quality ponies and the occasional galloway for exhibition in-hand and under saddle, in both the breed and open show rings.

Our aim here at Yurrugar is to produce a quality pony of riding type. All our stock are Section A Riding Ponies and are registered with the Riding Pony Stud Book Society. Occasionally, our ponies are eligible for Part Welsh, Arabian Riding Pony, APSB Riding Pony or APSB Part Bred registration also. Any foals born at the stud are handled from birth and all are usually offered for sale to the very best show homes. Below, Radway Right Royal (imp). Pictured in his show days. He is now eighteen and is looking as good as ever! Photo by S Crocket.

We are members of the Riding Pony Stud Book Society, Australian Pony Stud Book Society, Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Australia and the Equestrian Federation of Australia. Paige and Jennie are also active committee members and promoters of the Gippsland Regional APSB Promotional Group. Paige has been a committee member of both the Riding Pony Stud Book Society Victorian Branch and the Australian Pony Stud Book Society Victorian Branch, but retired from both committees due to work commitments. Both Paige and Jennie actively judge show horses and ponies, of most breeds, both in hand and under saddle, on a regular basis and are on the judges panel of a number of national breed societies.

Our resident stallion, Radway Right Royal (imp UK), is at very limited stud and is available for viewing from September to Feburary. Mares are accepted from August until March. Please contact us for further information. Email paige@paigesaundersassociates.com
